RPM72 Recordings (formerly rpm entertainment or rpm-ent) is a music production company headed by Richard Maloney. Based in South Florida, our work is not limited to one area or studio. We’ve worked in all types of settings, from large recording studios in Miami and New Orleans to more intimate professional studios in Ft. Lauderdale and Naples in Florida, and Baton Rouge in Louisiana.
We record real musicians. Our client list includes:
The Mike Dillon Band, a jazz-punk band out of New Orleans, LA; SOWFLO, a reggae rock band out of Naples, FL; and Ovrhol, a rock band based in Miami, FL. These bands are generally on the road and can be seen playing well-known events, such as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and South by Southwest, as well as some of the most beloved live music venues around the country. The Mike Dillon Band’s album, Band of Outsiders was named one of the top 50 albums of 2014 by Offbeat Magazine. In 2016, Gambit named The Mike Dillon Band “Best Punk Band of the Year” and Mike Dillon received the honor of “Best Male Performer of the Year.”
From banging on pots in the street to getting his first drum set at age 6, Richard was practically born with the beat. After cutting two albums in professional studios in Baton Rouge and Los Angeles, and touring across the country with his bands Section 8 and Kinetic Output, Richard decided to focus on the engineering that goes into making albums sound amazing. He completed courses at SAE Miami, a world-class audio engineering school, and immediately went to work at Studio Center Miami where he received hands-on training from some of the most experienced studio engineers in the country. He is always looking for talented bands and artists that he can not only record and produce, but that give him hope for the future of music.
We blend modern technology with old school recording techniques to produce sounds that have that warm, soulful analog feel in a digital world. One of the missteps many young musicians make is trying to record on their own, at home. You’ll often see #notahomestudio in our social media posts because we believe that although technology has brought us a long way, there is no substitute for experience and quality.
Richard has a small, professional studio in his home, a mobile studio that he takes with him on the road, and he is also at home in professional studios working behind large consoles and doing studio set up for large band recordings. As a professional and touring drummer, one of Richard’s specialties is recording drums. As an experienced audio engineer, he has an arsenal of professional recording equipment, from high-end A to D converters to class A tube mic pre’s. Richard also has extensive experience working at professional studios around South Florida.
